The Vogalonga is a non-competitive sporting event held in the Venetian lagoon, with origins dating back to 1974 when a group of Venetian rowing enthusiasts organised a friendly regatta on the city's typical boats called 'mascarete'. The Venetians liked this initiative so much that it became a regular event for all lovers of Venetian rowing.
The route is about 30 kilometres long and crosses St Mark's basin, the canals, Murano, the Grand Canal, Rialto and the Punta della Salute.
The arrival of the 48th Vogalonga is scheduled at the end of the Grand Canal, at the height of the Basilica della Salute.
